PATTY WETZELS, LLM

Attorney-at-law

SPEE advocaten & mediation Maastricht

My name is Patty Wetzels, and I specialise in law of persons and family law, inheritance law, tenancy and real estate law, and contract law. With over 17 years of experience and a sharp legal acumen, I assist entrepreneurs and other clients in navigating complex legal matters. After completing my law studies in Nijmegen, I spent a significant portion of my career in the Randstad region, where I worked and advised at the highest level for twelve years. I have since returned to Limburg, where I apply my expertise at SPEE advocaten & mediation, a firm renowned for its focus on quality and tailored solutions.

Before being sworn in as a solicitor in 2020, I worked for thirteen years as a legal counsel at a leading legal expenses insurer. This broad legal foundation enabled me to specialise in family and inheritance law, fields in which I have built a solid reputation. I assist entrepreneurs, managing directors, and other professionals in impactful matters such as divorces, asset division, and inheritance disputes involving significant financial interests and ownership structures.

In addition, I have developed a strong practice in tenancy law, real estate law, and contract law. Whether dealing with complex tenancy disputes, real estate transactions, or business agreements, I provide strategic guidance with a keen eye for detail and risk analysis.

I offer expertise in the following areas:

  • Complex divorces: Including the division of businesses, shares, and assets.
  • Inheritance disputes: Preventing and resolving conflicts within family businesses or among heirs.
  • Tenancy and real estate matters: Disputes between landlords and tenants, real estate projects, and commercial lease agreements.
  • Contractual disputes: In both business and private agreements.

I am known for my accessibility and my ability to quickly identify the core issues. My clients appreciate my analytical precision, pragmatic approach, and dedication, especially in emotionally charged matters. In addition to addressing the legal aspects, I understand the importance of considering the human side of a case.

In family or inheritance law cases, which often involve significant tensions and complex interests, I strive to prevent escalation and achieve practical solutions. Should litigation become unavoidable, you can rely on me for a strong and well-considered strategy that safeguards your interests to the fullest extent.

My aim is to provide high-quality legal solutions that are not only legally sound but also practically feasible and strategically effective. You can count on a personal and discreet approach, tailored to your specific needs and circumstances.

By the way, besides Dutch, I also master English and German at a professional level.

I have registered the following areas of law practice in the rechtsgebiedenregister (register of legal practice areas) of the Netherlands Bar:

  • Law of persons and family law.

This registration requires me to obtain 10 training credits per calendar year for each registered area of law, in accordance with the Netherlands Bar standards.
