SPEE Advocaten & Mediation - Monique Spee - 5337

Monique J.E. Spee, LL.M.

Attorney-at-law & Mediator

SPEE advocaten & mediation Maastricht

My name is Monique Spee, and I am the founder and owner of SPEE advocaten & mediation, which has offices in Maastricht and at Maastricht Airport. As a lawyer and as a mediator, I specialize in labour law and in advising and assisting private individuals and entrepreneurs in a variety of civil law cases. As well as being a lawyer and mediator, I am also an entrepreneur, and I relish the challenge of drawing on that background and experience to actively support other entrepreneurs, even when a different facet of business is involved.
.
Our office has always enjoyed a strong reputation in labour law and, over the years has also become known for its expertise in company law and advising companies and private individuals. I advise on individual and group redundancies, reorganizations and takeovers, executive position and liability, labour conflicts, working conditions, occupational accidents, incapacity for work and cross-border employment law. In addition, I can help you with various aspects of the law of obligations.
.
As a horse owner and dressage rider, I have a special affinity with equine law, and can advise you on rights and obligations when buying and selling horses, drawing up contracts and so on.
.
My approach is practical, analytical, and solution-focused, with a very strong sense of justice. I never lose sight of the underlying relationships and personalities involved.
.
I have been a practising lawyer since 1998 and, since 2012, have been an officially registered mediator at, and a member of, the Mediatorsfederatie Nederland (Dutch mediation federation, MfN). Whether in their private or professional lives, people sometimes have more to gain from proper dialogue and conflict resolution, or from avoiding conflicts and the potential for litigation. In my role as a mediator, I restore dialogue between the parties to a business-related or personal dispute. In many cases, a solution can be found. If the problem turns out to be more deep-seated, I involve horses in the mediation process, as they possess a pure and infinite wisdom and an innate feel for the underlying dynamic.
.
You can come to me for both legal representation and advice, and for mediation. If you aren't sure what's best for you, or for your company or team, I am more than happy to help clarify your needs. Every problem is unique, and I believe there's a solution to every problem.
.
If there is an international dimension to a dispute and/or mediation, or the parties are international, rest assured that I am able to represent you or conduct mediation in German or English.
.
I have registered the following areas of legal practice in the rechtsgebiedenregister (register of legal practice areas) of the Netherlands Bar:

  • Labour Law;
  • Law of obligations.

.
This registration requires me to obtain 10 training credits per calendar year for each registered area of law, in accordance with the Netherlands Bar standards.

SPEE Advocaten & Mediation - Martine van Krieken - 4923

Martine E.V. van Krieken-Boersma, LL.M, PhD

Attorney-at-law

SPEE advocaten & mediation Maastricht

In 2011, I was sworn in as a practising lawyer, and have had the great pleasure of spending much of my career as an attorney-at-law working at SPEE advocaten & mediation. I advise and litigate about partnership and company law, labour law, the law of obligations, contract law and property law. As well as private individuals, I also advise many different companies, from multinationals to self-employed entrepreneurs.

.
I graduated with distinction from the Grotius specialist training in Partnership and Company Law. This means you contact me for drawing up or assessing shareholder agreements, domestic and international contracts, and general terms and conditions. You can also contact me for assistance with business acquisitions or the disbanding of partnerships, or with issues in the area of directors’ liability.
.
Furthermore, I am very experienced in labour law. I provide guidance in individual employment law processes, for example in cases of underperformance or discussions about illness and incapacity for work. I also advise on group redundancies and collective and individual employment conditions. Moreover, I advise employers and employees on cross-border employment, for example if the employee works in the Netherlands but lives in Belgium or Germany. My personal style as a lawyer is analytical, pragmatic and solution-oriented, with a great involvement with my clients and a good understanding of the underlying relationships.
.
Before becoming an attorney-at-law, I worked in academia. After graduating in law from Maastricht University (with distinction), I completed a PhD in 2012 on the topic Corruption: a violation of human rights and a crime under international law?, for which I received the Max van der Stoel Human Rights Award in 2013. Furthermore, I held various board positions and taught students. Sharing knowledge is very important to me and therefore at SPEE advocaten & mediation, I run regular knowledge sessions, on various legal matters.
.
Clear language is obviously very important in the legal field. I therefore advise our international clients in English. Having passed the Cambridge Proficiency Exam, international advice is therefore in good hands with me. Moreover, I attended the four-year HBO qualification at the ITV Hogeschool voor Tolken en Vertalen (ITV University of Applied Sciences for Interpreting and Translation) in Spanish translation. In addition to my work as a lawyer, I am the owner of Magister Translations: I work as a freelance translator Spanish and English Dutch and as a copywriter. My knowledge and experience as a lawyer and as a translator/copywriter complement and reinforce each other.
.
I have registered the following areas of law practice in the rechtsgebiedenregister (register of legal practice areas) of the Netherlands Bar:
.

  • Company law;
  • Labour Law.

.
This registration requires me to obtain 10 training credits per calendar year for each registered area of law, in accordance with the Netherlands Bar standards.

Angelique van den Eshoff, LL.M.

Attorney-at-law & Mediator

SPEE advocaten & mediation Maastricht

My name is Angelique van den Eshoff and I specialise in the law of persons and family law as well as in inheritance law. I am a member of the specialist association Vfas.
.

I have been a lawyer since 1998 and a mediator since 2004.
.

I am committed, empathetic, analytical and thorough and I am an expert in guiding complex divorce and division and distribution cases, divorces and distributions for entrepreneurs and disputes surrounding inheritances and estates.
.
I am a highly experienced lawyer and mediator in the areas of the law of persons and family law and inheritance law. With years of experience, I have extensive knowledge of the laws and regulations in these areas and have successfully assisted many clients in various cases and mediations. In doing so, I always try to find a solution in harmony first, but if there is no other way, I also represent my clients' interests 200% in court.
.
What sets me apart from other lawyers is my committed and empathetic style of working. I understand that my clients often find themselves in difficult and emotional situations and I do all I can to assist and support them as best I can. This means that when new legal developments occur, even after many years, clients often come back to me and seek my advice and assistance, or hire me as a mediator.
.
I graduated from Maastricht University in 1998 and was sworn in as a lawyer immediately afterwards. Since 2004, as a specialised family law lawyer and divorce mediator, I have been a member of the Vfas (Dutch Association of Family and Succession Lawyers and Divorce Mediators) and in 2013 I completed the specialisation course in inheritance law.
.
I have registered the following areas of law practice in the rechtsgebiedenregister (register of legal practice areas) of the Netherlands Bar:

  • Persons and family law

.
This registration requires me to obtain 10 training credits per calendar year for each registered area of law, in accordance with the Netherlands Bar standards.
.
I specialise - both as a lawyer and a mediator - particularly in more complex divorce cases. These include cases where there is high conflict between the ex-partners, often also involving minor children, or when there are major interests at stake, such as in the case of business owners, large assets or complicated prenuptial agreements.
.
Business owners in particular often have a lot to lose in a divorce. In addition to all the emotional impact, a divorce can also have serious consequences for their businesses. As a family law specialist, I understand the complexities of business structures and can help entrepreneurs protect their business interests. I can work with the business owner to ensure that fair and realistic arrangements are made when dividing up the business, where the continuity of the business is not compromised. With my bulk of experience, I understand the specific challenges faced by entrepreneurs in a divorce situation and can help make the right decisions.
.
I have the skills and knowledge to address and guide these issues efficiently and effectively.
.
In short, I am an experienced, committed and expert lawyer and mediator who advises and supports her clients in both inheritance law issues and in (complex) matters in the area of the law of persons and family law.

Legal advisor

SPEE advocaten & mediation Maastricht

I was born in 1949, attended grammar school at the former St. Michiellyceum in Geleen, now the Graaf Huyn College, and studied law at Utrecht University. I began my career with fifteen years as an executive secretary, before going on to be deputy director, at a medium-sized national construction firm. In both roles, I was responsible for the company's legal affairs.
.
I then spent nearly twenty years in the practice of law, specializing in civil real estate law, with a principal focus on civil construction law.
.
In addition to my law practice, I have held a number of ancillary positions, including board member of "Progressbouw" (a legal predecessor of BouwNed, the Dutch Construction and Infrastructure Federation), board member of the Stichting Waarborgfonds Koopwoningen (Homeowner Guarantee Fund Foundation), the underwriting institution for larger construction companies and project developers in the Netherlands, and chairman of the supervisory board of housing cooperative Zo Wonen and its legal predecessors, as well as chairman of the school board for Special Education for Geleen and environs. I am currently chairman of the complaints committee for the Weller Housing Cooperative in Heerlen.
.
I left the practice of law in 2007 and am now an 'emeritus lawyer.' However, I still enjoy doing (legal) consulting work, particularly in the areas of real estate and (civil) construction law, and in that context I am associated with SPEE advocaten & mediation.
.
My personal style is best described as a sharp intellect with a pragmatic approach, drawing on years of invaluable knowledge and experience gained in both the corporate and the legal setting.
